AlgaeAlert

AlgaeAlert is a mobile + web app that helps lake associations, marinas, parks, and local governments detect and respond to harmful algal blooms (HABs) earlier. It combines near-real-time satellite signals (chlorophyll/turbidity proxies) with simple on-the-ground reports (photo + location + odor/visibility checklist) to produce a practical “bloom likelihood” map and alert feed. Users can set watch areas, get threshold-based notifications, and generate a one-page shareable status report for residents and visitors. This is not a magic detector: cloud cover, shallow water, and mixed pixels limit satellite reliability, and the app clearly labels confidence and recommends confirmatory testing. The MVP focuses on a few regions with good satellite coverage and integrates public health guidance templates so managers can communicate quickly and consistently.
