AllergenMap
AllergenMap is a mobile app (with a lightweight web dashboard) that helps travelers and locals avoid allergic reactions when eating unfamiliar cuisines. Users set an allergy profile (e.g., peanuts, shellfish, sesame, gluten) and the app generates cuisine-specific “hidden ingredient” warnings, common cross-contamination risks, and safe dish suggestions by region. The core feature is a camera-based menu scan that translates and flags risky items with confidence levels, plus a downloadable “chef card” in the local language explaining the allergy clearly and politely. It also includes a community-backed database of packaged foods and restaurant dishes with verified allergen notes, but it’s intentionally conservative: when uncertain, it says so. This isn’t a foodie discovery app; it’s a safety tool that reduces anxiety and prevents emergencies while still letting people explore new cultures through food.
