AltRoute
AltRoute is a mobile + web app that helps disabled travelers and locals plan trips using real accessibility constraints, not generic “accessible” labels. Users set a profile (wheelchair, low-vision, hearing, fatigue limits, restroom needs, step-free requirement, max slope, elevator dependence), then get routes that avoid known barriers like broken lifts, steep curb cuts, stairs-only stations, or long transfers. The app blends open map data with crowdsourced incident reports (e.g., “elevator out at Station A”, “construction blocks ramp”), and partners with venues/transit agencies where possible. It also includes a “confidence score” per route based on freshness and source reliability, plus offline saved routes for when connectivity fails. This is not a feel-good directory; it’s a practical navigation tool that reduces wasted time, missed appointments, and unsafe detours.
