Avalert
Avalert is a mobile + web AI-assisted decision support app for backcountry skiers and splitboarders. It aggregates avalanche forecasts, weather, wind loading, recent observations, and user-submitted incident reports into a single “go / no-go / modify” plan with clear reasoning. Users build a tour plan (route, aspect, elevation bands, timing), then the app flags red zones (e.g., persistent slab on NW aspects above treeline) and suggests safer alternatives. It includes an offline checklist for field observations (cracking, whumphing, recent avalanches) and a simple risk log you can share with your group before leaving the trailhead. Brutal truth: it won’t replace education, and you must avoid implying it guarantees safety. The value is reducing missed info, decision fatigue, and group miscommunication, especially for intermediate users trying to be consistent.
