BailoutPing

BailoutPing is a mobile app (iOS/Android) that helps outdoor groups coordinate “if we’re not back by X, do Y” plans without relying on constant cell service. Before a hike, paddling trip, or backcountry ski day, users create a simple trip card: route area, expected return time, vehicle location, and emergency contacts. The app schedules timed check-ins; if a check-in is missed, it escalates through a configurable ladder (notify friends, share last known location, send a prewritten message with trip details). It also generates a shareable “trip brief” link/QR for a trusted contact. It’s not a replacement for a satellite communicator—it's a lightweight layer for the huge number of people who don’t own one. Realistically, adoption hinges on simplicity, trust, and clear disclaimers about limitations.
