BailoutPing
BailoutPing is a mobile app (with a lightweight web dashboard) that helps hikers, climbers, and overlanders create a realistic “if I’m late” rescue plan before they leave cell coverage. Users build a trip card with route, check-in schedule, vehicle location, gear notes, and emergency contacts. The app sends timed check-in prompts; if the user misses them, it escalates automatically: first to a buddy, then to a designated coordinator, with a clear, shareable packet (last known GPS points, planned route, medical notes, and local authority numbers). It works offline by caching maps and storing the plan locally, then syncing when a signal returns. This is not a magic SOS device replacement—without satellite hardware it can’t guarantee delivery—but it dramatically reduces confusion and delays when something goes wrong and improves preparedness for groups and solo travelers.
