BeetleID

BeetleID is a mobile AI + expert workflow app for identifying beetles (Coleoptera) from photos, with location-aware suggestions and a confidence score you can actually trust. Users snap 3 guided angles (dorsal, lateral, underside), and the app runs an on-device precheck plus a cloud model to propose likely taxa (family/genus/species when possible). When confidence is low, users can submit to a paid “expert verify” queue (partner entomologists and vetted power users) and receive a citation-style ID report with diagnostic traits and references. The app also builds a personal collection log with GPS, habitat notes, and exportable CSV/Darwin Core fields for iNaturalist/GBIF workflows. Realistically, fully automated species-level ID will be unreliable for many groups; the product wins by being honest about uncertainty and making verification fast, structured, and auditable.
