BenchBrief
BenchBrief is a web app (with optional desktop add-in) that generates judge-ready research memos from a curated, court-approved library of opinions, statutes, and local rules. It combines traditional search with AI-assisted drafting, but the AI is constrained: every proposition must be backed by pinpoint citations and a quoted excerpt, and anything uncertain is flagged instead of guessed. The core workflow is: enter an issue, jurisdiction, and standard of review; get a structured memo (questions presented, rule, analysis, counterarguments, recommended disposition) with a source table and one-click jump to the exact page/paragraph. It also supports “record-aware” research by letting clerks upload briefs/record excerpts and extracting disputed issues and citations for verification. Realistically, procurement and trust are the hardest parts; the product wins only if it is demonstrably more reliable than generic AI and faster than Westlaw/Lexis for common chambers tasks.
