BenchTrace

BenchTrace is a lightweight web + mobile app for tracking synthetic biology samples (strains, plasmids, gBlocks, cell banks) using QR/barcodes and minimal metadata. It targets labs that are too small or too busy to implement a full LIMS but still lose time to mislabels, missing provenance, and “who made this?” mysteries. Users create a sample record, print a QR label, and log key events (transformation, miniprep, sequencing, glycerol stock, shipment) in seconds from a phone at the bench. The app builds a lineage graph and a simple audit trail, attaches files (FASTA, .ab1, PDFs), and supports basic permissions for lab members. It also exports clean CSV/JSON for later migration into a real LIMS. This is not a scientific oracle; it’s a practical, low-friction traceability layer that reduces costly rework and improves reproducibility.
