BloomWatch

BloomWatch is a web + mobile AI app for lake managers and water utilities to spot harmful algal bloom risk early using satellite imagery, local weather, and optional in-lake sensor readings. It turns noisy data into a simple risk score by waterbody, with alerts when conditions trend toward bloom formation. Users can annotate events (confirmed blooms, odor complaints, fish kills), generating a local history that improves future predictions. The MVP focuses on a narrow promise: faster, cheaper situational awareness than manual sampling alone. Brutal truth: you won’t “predict blooms perfectly,” and regulators won’t accept it as compliance sampling. But many operators still need early warning to decide when to sample, post advisories, adjust treatment, or deploy mitigation. The product wins if it reliably saves time and reduces surprise incidents, not if it replaces lab tests.
