BusFactor

BusFactor is a web app (with optional Slack/Teams integration) that quantifies key person risk across teams by mapping who owns what, how replaceable they are, and how well knowledge is documented. It ingests signals from common systems (GitHub/GitLab, Jira, Confluence/Notion, Google Drive/SharePoint) to detect “ownership concentration” (e.g., one person reviews 80% of critical PRs, holds the only admin role, or is the sole author of runbooks). It then produces a simple risk score per system/process, highlights the top 10 single points of failure, and generates a practical mitigation plan: required documentation, cross-training tasks, access changes, and succession coverage. This is not magic—data will be messy and some orgs won’t have clean tooling—but even partial visibility is better than guessing during an outage or resignation.
