CableProof

CableProof is a mobile + desktop utility that helps people identify flaky USB-C/Lightning cables, chargers, and ports using simple guided tests and real measurements. On mobile, it reads charging rate, negotiated power, temperature, and disconnect events, then runs short stress tests (screen on/off, data transfer, fast-charge toggle) to expose intermittent failures. On desktop, it monitors USB device resets and power draw patterns during file transfers to catch “works for charging but not data” cables. The app builds a health score per cable/charger, logs which combinations are reliable, and suggests the cheapest fix (replace cable vs. charger vs. clean port). It’s not magic: without specialized hardware it can’t measure true wattage perfectly on every device, but it can reliably detect instability, throttling, and negotiation problems that users actually feel.
