CableSense

CableSense is a mobile + desktop app that helps IT teams and makers identify mystery cables, adapters, and ports before they waste hours guessing. Users snap a photo of a connector (or select from a guided shape/size wizard), then the app suggests likely standards (e.g., USB-C alt modes, HDMI versions, barrel jack sizes) and what it can safely connect to. On desktop, a lightweight companion can read basic USB device descriptors and monitor connected peripherals to confirm capabilities (where the OS allows). It also generates a simple “connection recipe” for common goals like “connect laptop to 4K monitor at 60Hz” or “power this device safely,” including warnings about look-alike connectors and risky combinations. This is not magic: it won’t perfectly identify every cable from a blurry photo, but it will dramatically reduce trial-and-error and prevent common, costly mistakes.
