CapStress

CapStress is a web app (with optional Excel add-in) that lets capacity market participants run fast, scenario-based stress tests on their offers and obligations. Users upload a simple template (or connect via API) with unit parameters, derates, outage assumptions, and cost inputs. The app then simulates outcomes across key uncertainties: forced outage rates, deliverability constraints, penalty regimes, price caps, and rule changes by market (e.g., PJM/ISO-NE/NYISO variants). It produces a plain-English risk summary, a bid/offer “safe range,” and a compliance checklist tied to the latest tariff sections. This is not a magic black box: it’s a transparent model with auditable calculations and versioned assumptions so risk teams can sign off. The goal is to reduce expensive bid mistakes, avoid non-performance penalties, and shorten internal approval cycles.
