CaptiveCut

CaptiveCut is a mobile + desktop companion that reduces the most annoying part of public Wi‑Fi: captive portals that don’t pop up, time out, or silently block apps. The app detects when you’re behind a captive portal, forces the portal to open reliably, and guides you through the minimum steps to get online. For venues that require email/SMS, it can generate disposable aliases and track which networks you used them on. It also runs a quick “real internet” check (not just “connected”) and can automatically switch you back to cellular or a fallback network when the Wi‑Fi is unusable. A lightweight crowd signal (opt‑in) reports whether a venue’s Wi‑Fi currently works, without sharing browsing data. This is not magic: it won’t make bad Wi‑Fi fast, but it will make getting online less painful and more predictable.
