CartBench is a mobile app (with a lightweight web dashboard) that helps shoppers compare groceries by true unit cost across stores and package sizes, without relying on unreliable store “sale” labels. You scan a shelf tag or receipt, and the app normalizes price per ounce/gram/count, flags shrinkflation (same price, smaller size), and suggests equivalent swaps based on your constraints (brand, dietary needs, bulk vs single-serve). It also builds a personal “price memory” so you can see whether today’s deal is actually good for your neighborhood. This is a combination traditional + AI app: traditional for scanning, normalization, and tracking; AI for parsing messy receipt text, detecting packaging changes, and generating swap suggestions. Monetization is realistic: freemium with a paid tier for advanced alerts, household sharing, and bulk price history exports.
