CertRescue

CertRescue is a web app (with lightweight desktop agent) that automates the painful parts of S/MIME certificate lifecycle management for organizations using Outlook/Exchange and Microsoft 365. It discovers who has S/MIME enabled, tracks certificate expirations, and pushes renewals and configuration updates with minimal user involvement. The desktop agent handles key generation and secure key storage where needed, while the web console provides policy, reporting, and audit trails for compliance. It also includes guided migration tools to clean up common misconfigurations (wrong cert in profile, missing intermediate chain, broken trust stores) that cause signing/encryption failures and helpdesk tickets. This is a traditional app with a small AI component that analyzes failure logs and suggests likely fixes. Realistically, it wins by reducing support burden and avoiding “encryption suddenly stopped working” incidents.
