ChainProof is a web + mobile app for creating court-defensible chain-of-custody records for digital evidence without relying on spreadsheets and ad-hoc screenshots. Investigators scan a QR code on an evidence bag or device, capture structured metadata (who/what/when/where), and attach hashes for files or disk images. Every action—collection, transfer, access, analysis, export—is recorded as an append-only event with cryptographic signing, producing an audit trail that’s easy to review and hard to dispute. The app generates standardized reports (PDF/JSON) and can integrate with common forensic workflows by importing hash lists and case identifiers. It’s not a full forensic suite; it’s the boring but critical glue that reduces mistakes, speeds audits, and prevents “we can’t prove integrity” moments. Realistically, the product wins by being simpler than enterprise evidence systems and more defensible than DIY processes.
