ChemCheck

ChemCheck is a mobile app (with optional web dashboard) that helps households reduce exposure to common indoor irritants and potentially harmful chemicals from cleaning products, paints, air fresheners, and furnishings. Users scan barcodes or take a label photo; the app flags high-risk ingredients (e.g., strong fragrances, isothiazolinones, quats, high-VOC solvents) and suggests safer, widely available alternatives based on what’s actually sold locally. It also builds a simple “home exposure checklist” by room (kitchen, bath, nursery) and tracks what you’ve replaced over time. This is not a medical app and won’t pretend to diagnose symptoms; it’s a practical decision tool for shopping and home maintenance. The hard truth: data quality is messy, and many products hide behind “fragrance” or incomplete disclosures—ChemCheck focuses on transparency scoring and realistic swaps rather than perfect certainty.
