ChoiceFriction

ChoiceFriction is a mobile + browser extension app that targets impulse spending at the exact moment it happens. It detects when you’re about to buy something online (or in-app) and inserts a short, customizable “friction step”: a 30-second delay, a one-question prompt (“Will you still want this tomorrow?”), and a quick price-check against common retailers. It also lets users set simple rules like “block purchases after 11pm,” “require a 24-hour hold for items over $75,” or “only allow wishlisting during sales.” The app focuses on behavior change, not budgeting spreadsheets. It provides weekly insights on triggers (time of day, retailer, category) and shows how much money was saved by holds and abandoned carts. It’s realistic: it won’t stop all spending, but it can reduce the worst impulse patterns.
