ClayCost

ClayCost is a mobile + web app that helps potters price work based on real inputs instead of gut feel. You log a batch (e.g., 12 mugs) and enter clay used, glaze components, firing schedule, kiln type, electricity/gas rate, and studio overhead. The app calculates per-piece cost, suggests a minimum retail/wholesale price based on your target hourly rate and margin, and stores templates for repeat forms. It also tracks inventory of raw materials and flags when a glaze recipe is becoming expensive or inconsistent due to supplier price changes. This is not glamorous, but it solves the unsexy problem that quietly kills ceramics businesses: underpricing and not understanding firing costs. It’s a traditional app with light AI features (auto-categorizing expenses from receipts and suggesting pricing ranges from your history).
