CodeSketcher
CodeSketcher is a web + tablet app that turns rough floor plan sketches into permit-style, dimensioned drawings and a clean “code checklist” for common residential requirements (egress windows, stair geometry, door clearances, smoke/CO locations). Users trace over a photo of a hand sketch or import a PDF, then the app snaps walls, detects rooms, and generates a consistent plan set with labels, dimensions, and a materials/fixture schedule. It’s not a full CAD replacement; it’s a speed tool for early design and pre-permit sanity checks. The value is reducing back-and-forth with drafters and catching obvious code issues before submitting. It exports to PDF/DWG and produces a shareable link for contractors/clients to comment directly on the plan. Realistically, it will only cover a subset of jurisdictions at first, and it must be explicit about what it can’t guarantee.
