ColonyCount

ColonyCount is a web + mobile AI app that turns a simple photo of an agar plate into reliable colony counts and basic QC metrics. Users upload or snap an image, select plate type and expected colony size range, and the app auto-detects colonies, flags merged/ambiguous regions, and outputs total CFU, size distribution, and a confidence score. It stores results with sample metadata (strain, dilution, date, operator) and exports to CSV/PDF for lab notebooks and reports. The goal is not “perfect computer vision,” but a repeatable workflow that beats manual counting and reduces transcription errors. It’s realistic for teaching labs, small biotech, and QC teams that can’t justify expensive colony counters. The app also includes a manual correction mode so users can add/remove colonies when the AI struggles with smears, glare, or heavy clustering.
