CrowdCite
CrowdCite is a web + mobile app for crowdsourcing verification of viral claims, screenshots, and short clips. Users submit a claim and optionally attach a link or image; the community then adds citations, context, and counter-evidence, voting on which sources are credible. Each claim becomes a living “citation thread” with a confidence score, source quality labels, and a timeline showing how the story evolved. To keep it realistic (and not a misinformation magnet), CrowdCite limits topics to verifiable domains (public policy statements, product announcements, pricing, public figures’ quotes, and widely shared media) and requires sources for votes to count. An AI assistant helps extract the claim, suggest search queries, and detect likely duplicates, but humans decide what’s true. Monetization: subscriptions for journalists, comms teams, educators, and researchers; plus API access for publishers to embed verified claim cards.
