DepreGate
DepreGate is a web app (with a GitHub/GitLab app) that enforces safe API deprecation and removal workflows. It scans OpenAPI/GraphQL schemas and code annotations to detect endpoints/fields marked for deprecation, then blocks merges/releases unless required steps are met: minimum notice period, migration guide link, versioning rules, and consumer impact assessment. It also generates a “deprecation contract” page per change: what’s changing, who’s affected, timelines, and rollback plan. The product is intentionally narrow: it doesn’t try to be a full API gateway or observability suite. It integrates with CI to fail builds, posts PR comments with actionable fixes, and can optionally send customer-facing notices via email/webhooks. The core value is preventing the expensive, reputation-damaging incident where a team removes something “nobody uses” and breaks key customers.
