DistrictBrief

DistrictBrief is a web app (with optional desktop export tools) that helps journalists, advocates, and local officials quickly understand and explain proposed redistricting maps. Users upload or link common GIS formats (GeoJSON/Shapefile) and election results, then the app generates standardized, citation-ready briefs: compactness and contiguity checks, community-splitting summaries, minority opportunity indicators (with clear caveats), and “what changed” diffs versus the current plan. An AI assistant drafts a neutral narrative summary and a list of questions to ask at hearings, but every claim is backed by a visible calculation, chart, or source link. The app is designed for time-crunched users who don’t want to become GIS experts just to participate. It won’t magically prove gerrymandering in court; it will, however, make map impacts understandable and auditable in hours instead of weeks.
