DocuCompass
DocuCompass is a mobile + web app that helps documentary fans choose what to watch next without wasting time on vague genre labels and hype. It combines a structured “topic graph” (e.g., climate, cults, finance, true crime, medicine, geopolitics) with practical filters like tone (hopeful vs bleak), intensity, reenactments, graphic content, and credibility signals (sources shown, expert diversity, corrections). Users can build a watchlist across Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, PBS, etc., and get “If you liked X, try Y” recommendations that explain why—topic overlap, narrative style, and pacing—rather than black-box suggestions. The app also supports quick post-watch notes and shareable lists for clubs/classes. This is not a streaming service; it’s a decision and discovery layer that respects how people actually pick documentaries: by subject, mood, and trust.
