DoorShield is a mobile + desktop app that helps renters and apartment dwellers protect “privacy in place” by reducing unwanted doorstep interactions. It pairs with a small, optional door-mounted sensor (or uses phone audio patterns if no hardware) to detect knocks, door-handle jiggles, and sustained hallway presence. When something happens, it sends a discreet alert and offers one-tap responses: prewritten messages to building staff, a “do not disturb” notice you can display on a lock screen/desktop widget, and an incident log with timestamps. If you choose, it can also auto-start a short audio recording locally for evidence (with clear consent prompts and regional legal guidance). This isn’t a security camera replacement; it’s a privacy-first “buffer” that helps you avoid opening the door, avoid confrontation, and document repeated harassment without turning your home into a surveillance setup.
