DustSignal

DustSignal is a mobile + web app that delivers hyperlocal dust and sandstorm risk alerts for desert regions, optimized for people who actually have to make go/no-go decisions. It blends public weather models with satellite-derived aerosol/dust indicators and on-the-ground user reports to produce a simple risk score for the next 0–6 hours and 24 hours. Users can set geofenced sites (work zones, schools, highways, solar farms) and receive notifications when visibility and particulate risk crosses thresholds. A lightweight incident log helps document conditions for safety compliance and insurance claims. This is not a “pretty desert facts” app; it’s a practical tool for operations and health. The MVP focuses on a few high-need desert metros/regions first (e.g., Phoenix/Tucson, Las Vegas, Riyadh, Dubai, Perth) and expands as data quality and partnerships improve.
