FairMapKit
FairMapKit is a web app (with optional desktop export tools) that helps watchdog groups, journalists, and local advocates evaluate proposed district maps quickly and credibly. Users upload shapefiles/GeoJSON or pull official precinct data, then generate standardized fairness and compliance reports: compactness, partisan bias proxies, minority opportunity indicators, community-of-interest splits, and incumbent/municipality splits. The app outputs a clean, citation-ready PDF plus an interactive public link that shows exactly how each metric was computed. It’s a combination traditional + AI app: AI assists with plain-language explanations, automated “what changed” summaries between map versions, and drafting testimony-style narratives, but the core metrics are deterministic and reproducible. The goal is not to ‘solve’ redistricting—it's to reduce the time and expertise barrier to producing defensible analysis that can survive public scrutiny.
