FeatherMatch
FeatherMatch is a mobile + web AI app that helps wildlife rehab centers, bird banding teams, and citizen scientists identify individual birds and species from photos of plumage patterns, beaks, and legs. The realistic value is not “perfect ID every time,” but faster triage: it suggests top matches with confidence, flags lookalike species, and recommends the next best photo angle to improve certainty. For rehab workflows, it creates a lightweight case record (injury notes, location, date) and can re-identify returning birds when markings are subtle. The app is designed for field constraints: offline capture, later sync, and a “low-confidence mode” that routes uncertain cases to human review. It also supports small private datasets (e.g., a sanctuary’s resident birds) so teams can identify their own individuals without needing massive public training data.
