FishScanID

FishScanID is a mobile AI app for anglers and coastal foragers that identifies fish and common nearshore species from a photo, then immediately shows local regulations, size/bag limits, seasonal closures, and basic handling/safety guidance. The core value is reducing accidental illegal harvest and preventing risky consumption mistakes (e.g., confusing similar species). The app uses on-device inference for quick ID, then pulls jurisdiction-specific rules based on GPS and user-selected management zone. It also stores a simple catch log with length/weight photos for personal tracking and proof-of-compliance. Realistically, perfect identification is not guaranteed—lighting, juvenile forms, and lookalikes will cause errors—so the app emphasizes confidence scores, “similar species” comparisons, and a conservative “don’t keep” recommendation when uncertain.
