FolderFence

FolderFence is a web app (with optional desktop agent) that prevents messy shared drives by enforcing lightweight, configurable filing rules at the moment a document is created or uploaded. Admins define required metadata (client, project, doc type, retention class) and FolderFence generates the correct path, naming convention, and permissions automatically. It plugs into Google Drive, Microsoft SharePoint/OneDrive, and Dropbox, then watches for non-compliant files (wrong folder, bad name, missing tags) and guides users to fix them in seconds. This is not a “new DMS”; it’s a guardrail layer for the tools companies already use. It includes audit trails, exception handling (legal holds, special projects), and simple dashboards showing where chaos is coming from. The product wins by being boring, fast, and enforceable—no big migration, no training-heavy rollout.
