GearProof

GearProof is a mobile app (with a lightweight web dashboard) that helps outdoor enthusiasts track the true lifecycle of critical gear—ropes, harnesses, helmets, PFDs, avalanche beacons, tents, stoves—so they don’t rely on vague memory or guesswork. Users scan a QR/NFC tag or barcode, log trips and exposure (saltwater, UV, heavy falls, wet storage), attach photos, and store receipts and serial numbers for warranty/recalls. The app generates simple, conservative “inspect/retire/ok” prompts based on manufacturer guidance plus user-entered usage history, and it flags known recalls and service bulletins. It also supports lending gear to friends with check-in/out and condition notes. This is not magic: it won’t “measure” safety, but it will dramatically reduce forgotten age/usage and missing documentation—two common causes of preventable gear failure and denied warranty claims.
