GroutGauge is a mobile + web app that helps DIYers and small contractors accurately estimate flooring materials and avoid costly overbuy/underbuy mistakes. Users scan a room with their phone camera to capture rough dimensions, then manually confirm key measurements (because phone-only scans are often wrong). The app calculates square footage, waste factor by pattern (straight, diagonal, herringbone), and outputs a shopping list: boxes of tile/LVP, underlayment, thinset/adhesive, grout, spacers, transitions, and trim. It also includes a “batch + dye lot” tracker so users don’t mix mismatched boxes, plus a simple job log with photos and receipts. The business model is subscription for pros and affiliate/lead fees from retailers for DIY. This is not magic: it wins by being dependable, transparent about uncertainty, and faster than spreadsheets.
