HalalScan is a mobile app that helps Muslims quickly assess whether packaged foods, supplements, and cosmetics align with halal requirements by scanning barcodes or ingredient lists. It combines a structured ingredient database with AI-powered OCR and ingredient normalization (to catch tricky synonyms, E-numbers, and ambiguous additives). Users get a clear result: halal, doubtful, or not halal—plus a plain-language explanation and links to sources. The app also supports personal madhhab preferences and regional certification differences, because “halal” isn’t enforced consistently across markets. Realistically, this won’t be perfect: manufacturers change formulations, and some ingredients are inherently ambiguous without supplier data. The product succeeds by being transparent about uncertainty, showing confidence levels, and letting users save trusted products and brands over time. Monetization is via subscriptions for advanced features and optional brand/certifier integrations.
