HechsherScan

HechsherScan is a mobile app (iOS/Android) that helps users quickly verify kosher status by photographing a product label. It uses AI OCR to read ingredients and detect hechsher symbols, then cross-checks results against a curated, rabbinically-sourced database of certifications, agencies, and common ingredient issues (e.g., glycerin, enzymes, emulsifiers). The app returns a simple, confidence-scored answer: “Kosher (Dairy/Meat/Parve),” “Needs verification,” or “Not kosher,” plus a short explanation and links to the certifying agency when available. It also supports offline “favorites” for frequently purchased items and a community reporting flow for new products, with moderation to prevent misinformation. This is not a halachic authority; it’s a fast triage tool that reduces shopping friction for observant users and families.
