HerpGuard
HerpGuard is a mobile + web app for conservation groups to collect reptile/amphibian sightings without accidentally creating a poaching map. Users submit observations with photos, time, habitat notes, and optional micro-location. The app automatically applies location obfuscation rules by species sensitivity, season, and jurisdiction, then routes records to trusted reviewers (agency/NGO admins) before anything is shared publicly. It also generates standardized exports for iNaturalist/GBIF-style pipelines, but with a “sensitive-first” workflow and audit logs. This is a combination traditional + AI app: AI helps with species ID suggestions and flags suspicious submissions (e.g., repeated rare-species reports near roads, copy-pasted metadata). The realistic value is operational: fewer risky leaks, cleaner datasets, and faster triage for understaffed herp programs.
