HybridBench

HybridBench is a mobile + web app that compares hybrids and plug-in hybrids using real-world ownership math instead of optimistic EPA ranges and marketing claims. Users pick two to five vehicles and enter their location, commute pattern, charging access, electricity rate, and gas price. The app outputs a clear, scenario-based comparison: expected fuel vs electric miles, monthly energy cost, total cost of ownership, and break-even versus a non-hybrid alternative. It also flags “gotchas” like short-trip winter efficiency drops, charging losses, and when a PHEV behaves like a regular hybrid because the battery is depleted. Data sources combine public specs with anonymized user-submitted logs and optional OBD-II imports. It’s not a magic predictor; it’s a transparent calculator with confidence ranges so users can see how sensitive results are to their habits.
