InkID

InkID is a mobile + web AI app that helps divers, aquarists, and marine educators identify octopus, squid, and cuttlefish from photos or short clips. Users upload an image, the app returns likely species with confidence, key visual markers (mantle shape, arm patterning, eye ring, chromatophore patterns), and a “lookalike” comparison slider to reduce mis-IDs. It also logs sightings with GPS, depth, temperature, and habitat notes, then exports to iNaturalist/GBIF-friendly formats for researchers. Brutal truth: consumer nature-ID apps are crowded, and cephalopods are hard because color/texture changes rapidly. So the MVP focuses on a narrow promise: reliable ID for the most commonly encountered species in top dive regions (Mediterranean, Indo-Pacific hotspots, California) and clear “can’t confidently identify” outputs instead of hallucinated certainty.
