KashruthQ is a mobile + web AI-assisted kosher verification app for Orthodox consumers who constantly face unclear labels, changing ingredients, and inconsistent store info. Users scan a barcode or label photo; the app extracts ingredients, flags common kashrut issues (e.g., glycerin source, enzymes, wine derivatives), and cross-references a curated database of reliable hechsherim and manufacturer statements. It then returns a simple status: “Approved,” “Needs Checking,” or “Not Recommended,” with a short, transparent explanation and links to sources. Community submissions are allowed but gated: only verified rabbinic reviewers or vetted moderators can publish final rulings for ambiguous items. The app also supports travel mode: country-specific ingredient concerns and local certification bodies. Realistically, it won’t replace a rav; it reduces wasted time and prevents avoidable mistakes.
