KidShelf
KidShelf is a mobile + web app that gives families a single, curated “safe feed” of videos, podcasts, stories, and games—without algorithmic rabbit holes. Parents choose age band, topics, daily time limits, and “approved sources” (PBS Kids, National Geographic Kids, etc.). Kids get a simple, distraction-free home screen with big tiles, offline packs for travel, and a “why this is here” explainer to build media literacy. The app blocks comments, external links, autoplay chains, and hidden in-app purchases. It also includes a parent dashboard showing what was consumed, what was skipped, and suggested adjustments (e.g., too much fast-cut video). This is not trying to replace YouTube Kids; it’s a safer front door that aggregates and locks down content families already trust, with clear controls and predictable behavior.
