LabelLeak

LabelLeak is a mobile + web app that helps vegans and “mostly vegan” shoppers avoid hidden animal-derived ingredients and misleading ethical claims. Scan a barcode or take a photo of an ingredient list; the app flags likely animal inputs (including obscure additives) and highlights risk levels when labeling is vague. It also shows a brand’s parent-company ties, animal testing policies, and controversy history with citations. This is an AI + traditional app: AI handles OCR, ingredient interpretation, and claim detection; humans and trusted sources provide verified policy data and corrections. The business model is freemium: free scanning and basic flags, paid for advanced brand reports, family profiles, and offline packs. Brutal reality: you won’t beat giant databases on breadth early, so you win by being faster, more transparent, and better at “uncertain” cases with clear explanations.
