LabelLens
LabelLens is a mobile app (with a lightweight web dashboard) that helps people find realistic ingredient substitutions based on what they actually have and what they must avoid. Instead of generic “use applesauce” advice, it scans a product label or recipe line, detects key functional roles (binder, leavener, fat, sweetener, thickener), and suggests swaps that match dietary constraints (allergies, low-FODMAP, gluten-free, vegan) and cooking method (baking vs sautéing). It also flags hidden risk ingredients (e.g., malt, whey, “natural flavors”) and explains tradeoffs like texture, browning, and cook-time changes. Users can build a small “my pantry” list and get substitutions ranked by likelihood of working, not by novelty. Monetization is a freemium model: free scans limited per month, paid for unlimited scans, pantry sync, and advanced dietary profiles.
