LabNorms

LabNorms is a web app (with optional mobile-friendly surveys) that helps research groups quantify and improve their day-to-day research culture: mentorship quality, authorship clarity, psychological safety, workload fairness, and reproducibility habits. It runs short, anonymous pulse surveys, then turns results into a “Lab Culture Scorecard” with trend lines, benchmark ranges by lab size/field, and a prioritized action list. It also provides lightweight templates for lab charters, authorship agreements, meeting norms, and onboarding checklists, plus a private issue log for recurring process problems (e.g., data management, code review). This is not a magic fix: it won’t solve toxic PIs who don’t care. But for labs that do care (or are under pressure from departments/funders), it offers a concrete way to diagnose problems early, document improvements, and reduce preventable conflict and attrition.
