LocalLens

LocalLens is a mobile + web app that matches people in different countries for short, structured “day-in-the-life” exchanges. Instead of open-ended pen-pal chatting (which usually dies), users complete 10–15 minute prompts: photo of a grocery receipt, a 30-second street sound clip, a quick voice note about a local norm, and a micro-quiz about context. The app auto-translates text and captions, and it enforces privacy by blurring faces/plates and stripping metadata. Each exchange ends with a lightweight “context card” (cost of living, holidays, common etiquette) so content isn’t misread. Communities can run themed weeks (Ramadan routines, commuting, school lunches) and moderators can flag sensitive content. Monetization is a subscription for unlimited exchanges plus school/NGO licenses for classroom-safe cohorts.
