MealSplit is a mobile app that makes restaurant bill splitting accurate without the awkward math. You scan the receipt, then drag items to people, including shared plates, appetizers, and bottles. It automatically handles tax, service charges, and tip rules (percentage, fixed, or “round up”), and supports uneven splits like “I only had two bites” with quick sliders. It also tracks your personal dining spend over time by restaurant, cuisine, and group, so you can see how much social eating is costing you. The app generates clean payment requests via Venmo/PayPal links or a simple “who owes whom” summary for cash. It’s not magic: receipt OCR can be messy, so the UI is designed for fast correction, not false perfection. The goal is to reduce post-meal friction and stop small errors from becoming recurring resentment.
