MemorialMap

MemorialMap is a mobile + web app that helps people discover nearby memorials, plaques, gravesites, and commemorative markers with reliable details and directions. The core problem today is messy data: duplicates, wrong locations, outdated photos, and unverifiable stories spread across blogs and scattered databases. MemorialMap focuses on verification. Users can submit memorials, but entries only become “Verified” after evidence checks: geotagged photos, inscription transcription, and cross-references to trusted sources (municipal registries, cemetery records, or reputable archives). The app supports respectful visit planning (hours, access rules, etiquette notes), lightweight personal collections (“places I visited”), and shareable memorial pages for educators and families. It’s not trying to be a social network; it’s a practical, accurate directory with community-powered validation and a clear audit trail for edits.
