MenuMestizo is a mobile app that helps diners understand Latin American restaurant menus beyond basic translation. Scan a menu (or a single dish name) and get a clear explanation of what it is, typical ingredients, spice/heat expectations, common regional variations (e.g., Mexican vs. Peruvian vs. Colombian), and allergy flags (nuts, dairy, gluten, shellfish) with confidence levels. It also suggests 2–3 adjacent dishes you’re likely to enjoy based on your preferences (heat tolerance, dietary needs, textures) and provides polite, culturally appropriate phrases to ask servers about substitutions. Restaurants can optionally claim their menu to add verified details and photos, but the app works without restaurant participation. The goal is to reduce ordering regret and make exploring Latin cuisines less intimidating for non-native speakers and newcomers, while still being useful to locals trying unfamiliar regional dishes.
