MenuVeto
MenuVeto is a mobile + web app that helps vegans and vegan-curious diners avoid “accidentally not vegan” meals by combining menu scanning with community verification. Users snap a photo of a menu (or paste a URL), and the app extracts items, flags likely non-vegan ingredients, and prompts the restaurant for clarification templates (e.g., broth, butter, whey, fish sauce). The key is a reputation-weighted verification layer: diners upload evidence (ingredient lists, staff confirmations, photos of packaging) and others can upvote/downvote based on accuracy over time. Restaurants can claim profiles and publish verified vegan prep notes (cross-contamination, shared fryers, etc.). The app focuses on reducing real-world friction: deciding where to eat with friends, quickly, without turning dinner into an interrogation. It’s not perfect—restaurants change suppliers—but it’s far better than guessing or relying on outdated reviews.
